LaboRatory Services
MICROBIOLOGY
QMS FoodTECH laboratories operates according to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards and we have methods developed for the analysis of E. coli, coliforms, and other bacteria in water as well as surface and hand swabs. As part of our QCHECK Pathogen Management service offered to packhouses we have methods developed to identify and enumerate fungi and bacteria associated with post-harvest diseases.
PLANT DISEASE DIAGNOSTICS
Our wide range of disease diagnostic tests and services includes the isolation from plant, soil, and water samples to identify bacteria and fungi associated with plant diseases which enables improved pest management.
NEMATODES, PHYTOPHTHORA AND PYTHIUM
The Citrus Improvement Scheme (CIS) has approved QMS FoodTECH as a diagnostic laboratory for citrus soilborne pathogens identification which includes nematodes, Phytophthora and Pythium analysis. Regular training and direct comparisons between laboratories form part of the CIS compliance. QMS FoodTECH can also analyse non-citrus samples for nematodes, Phytophthora and Pythium.
MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS
Committed to excellence, we strive to introduce innovative testing methods to provide the most efficient products possible. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) allows for rapid, accurate and reliable identification of microorganisms associated with diseases in plants and animals. Various PCR-based methods for virus indexing, plant disease diagnostics and identification of microorganisms are currently utilised with additional diagnostics under development.
MONITORING OF CITRUS BLACK SPOT (CBS)
QMS FoodTECH approaches the monitoring of Citrus black spot (Phyllosticta citricarpa) by using data obtained from weather stations and spore traps strategically placed in orchards. Potential infection periods as well as ascospore releases are constantly recorded using real-life conditions found in the orchard rather than predictive models alone. Weekly feedback reports, as well as regular summary reports, are sent to give citrus producers an indication of danger periods. This allows for better planning of corrective action.
RESEARCH – THIRD PARTY TRIALS
Research, and specifically registration trial research, forms a crucial part of QMS FoodTECH’s strategy. Whenever possible we conduct trials, which includes planning, execution and reporting of scientific data which is not only beneficial to the end user, but also to product manufacturers.
At the forefront of innovative solutions
To provide a more comprehensive service to our clients, QMS FoodTECH is at the forefront of research into innovative and improved ways of approaching our clients’ everyday challenges. We are always designing products, services, and systems to address shortcomings identified in the industry, followed by rigorous testing.
